The Last Stand: Union City – Released on Armor Games

Thanks to everyone who stuck around for the last 18 months, it’s been a long road. Thankyou to my testers, the game wouldn’t be in the shape it’s in if it wasn’t for you. Thanks to all my artists, musicians and the guys at Armor Games for their support and input.

Thanks in advance to those who’ll purchase the Survival Kit premium content pack, it’ll allow me to keep making games for you all. Now go and enjoy!

** UPDATE v1.2**
Version 1.2 is live. Has a bunch of fixes and balance changes. This’ll be the first of a few patches over the next few days.
- Menus including the Inventory, Character, Tasks and Achievements now function properly for all users.
- Melee misses have been made extremely rare, there was a bug that was causing them to happen over 60% of the time!
- Protected quest items from being deleted from storage.

PLAY – THE LAST STAND: UNION CITY

So, as stated, Open Beta is on it’s way. It should happen within the next two weeks.

There’s some fairly big chunks of content for me to get in there still, in addition to that we’ll be wanting to test the Armor Games save system that is being put in place. The Armor Game save won’t be compulsory, but it’ll let you play your save from anywhere you can run the game.

In the meantime, I thought I’d give you a list of what to expect in the open beta version.

Fixes
- Inventory rollover bug, for real this time (I think)
- Companion no longer contributes to Achievements
- Inventory health displays show correct amounts
- Achievement counts don’t go past their requirements
- Key closing for Sleep panel
- Area / Task text no longer overlaps
- XP from NPC’s using explosives no longer goes to player
- Day count wasn’t going past 10
- Inventory ammo items show correct ammo stock
- “Missing” ammo bug when changing rooms, fixed

Changes
- Weapons now empty and return the ammo on unequipping and swapping with companions
- Adjusted starting health by reducing it 30%
- Increased the “level” of zombies for all areas

Additions
- Added new ammo types: 40mm Grenade, 50 caliber, RPG round, hand grenades
- New clothing slot “eyes” (yes, sunglasses and bandana)
- New clothing item, goggles
- Whole bunch of new NPCs
- Final areas of the game

As promised, achievements will be part of The Last Stand: Union City. Who doesn’t love that little ding sound and some text appearing? I’ve added 41 achievements so far, with at least another 13 or so to come. The remaining few will mostly be to do with reaching different areas on the map and some late game stuff.

Instead of these achievements being meaningless, there’s an XP bonus attached to every single one. On top of that, there’ll be a reward for completing them all. The other thing is that the achievements are character dependent, so if you share a PC, your little brother / sister won’t be stealing all your XP goodness!

You’ll also get on screen updates as you’re playing, to let you know where you’re up to with certain achievements. It’s always good to know how many more zombies you need to kill to hit that Annihilation achievement. There’s also a handful of secret achievements. You won’t get updates for those, or any clue how to get it, you’ll have to stumble across that for yourself.

If you don’t want some stuff spoiled, don’t read the list I’ve posted after the jump. Otherwise, go forth!

Since I moved The Last Stand: Union City into beta, I’ve been getting requests on a daily basis for access to it. So, I figured I’d give a handful of people the chance to get access AND get a personal bit of content in the game (as well as giving me free content!). Here’s what you need to do:

The game has small parts of the story written on walls, files and notepads throughout the game world. They’re notes from people who survived (or didn’t) like the one above. What I’m asking you guys to do is:

NOTHING!
4/22 – Submissions are closed. I’ll review them over the Easter break and announce the winners next week.
