Everything you wanted to know about Con Artist, his games, Flash and game design all in one page! If there’s anything that’s not in here, it’s probably not been asked so head over to the forums and ask around.
The Last Stand
Are you making the Last Stand 3?
I am making a third Last Stand game but it is called The Last Stand: Union City. It’s a diversion from the series and takes on a different gameplay style than that of the previous two games.
What?! That’s crazy!
Well, no. I’m tired of shooting stuff from behind a barricade, aren’t you? There’s way more things we can do in the Last Stand world, I plan to show off a lot of those.
I think you should add X weapon or X trap
I’m a pretty imaginative guy and I also happen to know a little bit about weaponry from my past game developing history so I’ve got this stuff covered. If you think you’ve got something really unique, you probably don’t, check the forums, no doubt someone has already posted it in there.
When will the next Last Stand game be out?
Production is underway, it’s looking like it will be an early 2010 release.
What’s going to be different about it?
The Last Stand: Union City is a prequel of sorts and follows a survivor a few weeks after the initial infection in Union City. The game will be an action role playing game set in an open 2D side scrolling world.
Warfare
Is there a new Warfare coming?
Eventually, yes. I’m looking to go backward in time for the next one. I’m not entirely sure how far back yet, but it might even turn up in a pre-gunpowder age.
Can you make a Civil War, Vietnam, Korean War, Modern War Warfare next?
Maybe, no, no and no.
Making Games
What do you use to make games?
Flash by Adobe, it’s what 99% of the online games you play is made with. You can grab a trial version and check it out. It’s only one part of the puzzle though.
Can you teach me to make games?
Sorry, but no. I don’t have the time to help people individually with learning to create games. The biggest thing to understand is that while you might love to PLAY games, you have to have a very different mindset to be committed to making games. If you haven’t started looking into learning it for yourself, you probably don’t want to make games in the long run.
Why don’t you make a console / iPhone / some other format game?
Because it’s outside of my expertise and means I’d need other people involved. I am working on some small stuff for the iPhone, but as for consoles or any other platform, not going to happen at this stage. I earn my living making Flash games, it’s a good living and it’s relatively stress free. From my experience, working with consoles or even full distribution PC games, is just a stressful process.
About Con Artist
Who are you?
Just one guy. I’ve been making games in some form or another for 20 years now. I’ve worked on all aspects of game creation my whole life from the programming through to animation to sound and artwork. I’ve also worked on a number of different platforms, done 3D level design, made board games the works.
What did you study to learn this?
My study didn’t really help me get to where I am. Through high school I wanted to be a graphic designer. After I failed to get into design school I ended up opting for a Computer Systems course. I didn’t attend that very often and spent most of my College days working on level designs for an Unreal Tournament mod I was working for. I didn’t start learning Flash and making games on my own until I started working as a Web Designer, after spending 7 years doing that everyday, I’d picked up enough to start making games.
