Small update to the Alpha for you guys. Figured I better start numbering these things so we’re going to start with 0.5. There’s a fair bit of new stuff in here, some important system stuff is sorted out and working well, but do remember there was a 3 week break in there somewhere and not as much got done as I’d hoped.

What’s new:
- Reloading!
- Glock 17 pistol
- Pump-action shotgun
- Revised flashlight appearance
- Lots more main character hair / facial hair
- Day / Night cycle with lighting changes and clock!
- Early HUD designs
- Blood spatter!
- Damage text
- Experience system
- Critical hits system
- Early zombie attacks (only one animation at the moment, more to come)
- Still two whole empty rooms (they just look a bit different! Complete with random zombie spawnage.

What you need to know:
- No death anims / reset in yet. Refresh your browser to reload.
- There will be an option to toggle Damage text and XP text. They will be off by default.
- The character you’re playing with is at about 50% skill capacity this time.
- Your character appearance will still change every time you switch rooms.
- Toggle crouch and other control things haven’t been revised yet, I’ll be moving it to a hold crouch system soon.
- Critical hits cause knockback and are shown by yellow damage text.
- Critical hits which kill will cause dismemberment.
- The icons at the bottom will be buttons for your character and inventory.
- The shotgun doesn’t have a reload anim at the moment, hence the “RELOADIN’” text.
- The floating bar at the top is for the “Skill Reload” system, I’ll explain that more later. It’s not working at current, but it’s similar to the “active reload” system from Gears of War.
- There is a low-violence version available, it turns off 99% of the blood and gore. Option to toggle it on isn’t in this alpha.
- There is a low-effects version available, it turns off a lot of the particles such as shell casings, blood etc. Again, not in this alpha.

Controls
W - Stand / Jump
A,D - Left / Right
S - Crouch

R - Reload
F - Flashlight
Space - Switch Weapons
Mouse - Aim

Walk into the pink blocks to enter / exit a room.

Okay, Just played the game. It’s feel like an medieval RPG with the numbers coming out the top. Personally i don’t like knowing how much damage i’m doing, i just like kicking zombie butt!

I Love the Blood Splattering on the wall, feel’s like Left 4 Dead, just how i like it!

Also the RELOAD thingy is a little bit werid. I just like seeing my guy reload his gun. The Zombies attack are animated loops, in the final game can’t we see lot’s of diffrent attack moves??

And, those funny things at the bottom. The Face i’m guessing is your profile, it will show your stats and here you can upgrade your skills yes? And that bag is obviously your inventory.

Also i love it how your going to use the Reload thingy from Gears Of War ( One of my favorite games! ), i was going to use that in one of my games too!!

And don’t forget Con! FEMALE SURVIORS…

i’ve been asking since you first made the 2nd one. So girls can’t survive a zombie apocaylpse??? Also i hope we can have relationships in the game. Like your Best Friend is going to be more loyal and has a higher moral. So if things look bad his moral bar ( or whatever your doing ) will deplete last out of your group. And if you want you could have BoyFriend GirlFriends, cause on the ” WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN A ZOMBIE APOCAYLPSE ” Topic you made, heaps of people said they would get their girlfriends.

Anyway, THANKS CON!!

Danny Danny Danny. Read the release notes and then post again, I stopped reading after you commented on two things I’d explained quite clearly in them.

First off, simply, it’s looking SEXY.

Working out very well, the new Flashlight appearance is very good, much better than the old idea, but I have an issue,

When using a shotgun and dealing that amount of damage usually has no problem, but with the Flashlight on at the same time, FPS drops considerably, I know it probably would occur because of the extras on Screen, but not sure if it’s meant to drop THAT much.

With the flashlight on, the FPS drops down to about a low of 16, when on average it’s around 30 and can rise up to 116 when it drops after the Flashlight problem.

I’m liking the idea of the Active Reload, I presume once you level it up more, it’ll be easier to do right?

Anyway, I’ll post again if I find any more problems and or have any more ideas.

Thanks for the feedback. The FPS drop with the Flashlight on is expected at the moment, but if it’s averaging at 30, then that’s good. The game is running at 30 fps.

“Skill reload” as I’m calling it does get easier as you level up, the grey area will get larger.

Oh Noes. You didn’t read the part on Female Surviors and relationships with surviors!!
Read it, it’s got some awesome idea’s!

( PLZ READ THIS POST AND DELETE IT )

I’ve already stated there will be female characters both as survivors and playable. Seriously, read the release notes in future or I’ll just straight up delete your comments.

I found it surprisingly efficient to just spam fire and reload at the same time, it resulted in about the same speed of shooting, but i never ran out of ammo. anything you’re interested in? Otherwise, the performance seems very nice for me, and i DO like the damage and experience text. it gives it a much more RPG-like feel to me. keep up the great work.

When you’re spamming fire and reload, you’re clicking and pressing R at the same time? You shouldn’t be able to fire while you’re reloading…

I gotta admit, this is such a great improvement.
The graphic violence is …satisfying… (No I am not physco) and the damage shown is rather nice…

Now as for my FPS readings: My lowest was 16 Con, and that was without the Flashlight…

I think that isn’t good…

Just a quick update on something I found.

In the second room, the back end of the room with the Stacked Boxes, I pressed E to climb it but was attacked at the same time, glitched me and am stuck there now.

Not sure if you know this or anything, but, just putting it out there.

Good GAME.

Yeah, know about that.

hey man, when your hp is at -2, you just can’t move, can’t aim, but can still shoot at the moment you died and can reload.

i suppose death has not been implemented.

I enjoyed this Alpha a lot. Thanks for allowing us to be part of the process.

I noticed only one small thing happening that you may already know about.
When my power bar reached zero and started into the negative numbers, my character froze but was still able to shoot. This happened in the second room. Probably because you still have not added Game Over or dieing parts yet. Just thought I would mention it, since I figure that is what we are suppose to be doing when reporting on the alpha.

Thanks again for the games. So much fun.

Yeah, no death is in yet.

Not sure what sort of feedback you’re looking for.
0.5 is pretty great, though: Character appearance is mighty slick, framerate stays above 20 for me, controls are responsive (aside from some Alpha Test animation issues) and the new flashlight is boss.

Can’t wait for more.

Great alpha con! the flashlight worked really well and i loved how you integrated it into the gun rather then just have a random light float around the room following your cursor

I noticed that the shotgun would sometimes completely miss the zombie i was aiming at and just hit the one behind it however.

oh and i dont know if you have answered this question somewhere (and my apologies if you have) but is there going to be a story behind the game? or is it just “here are a bunch of zombies now kill them” like it was in last stand 1 and 2?

anyway great job, and i have to say i admire that you take the time to answer questions and such and still have time to work on the game. If it were me, honestly i probably would not take the time haha

The game will have a fair amount of story. It’s Action RPG afterall.

For me the game jumps to 200 fps, to 10 fps, and back to 30 fps every time I switch guns.

I like the new flashlight. The deluding effects are awesome.

Also, every time I press `, this menu comes up. I’m pretty sure you didn’t mention it, so, I just made a bunch of Log’s with it. Very fun.

Plus, as two unrelated notes,

Will there be enough game time to complete everything you have planned?

And are you going to make a 3 round burstfire gun? Didn’t exactly know where to ask this, I was just wondering.

Ahh you’ve found my dev console. Try clicking in the bottom area of it and typing stuff like “showfps”.

Other questions, yes and not sure.

Heya Con. Great job again on this installment. My FPS only bottomed out at 17 when I turned on the flashlight and fired wildly into a group of zombies. Otherwise it stayed at a pretty good 30fps.

There was one issue I noted that I wasn’t sure you were aware of. If you turn on the flashlight during the daytime and walk around with it until nightfall, it is very dim unless you switch it on and turn it off again.

Don’t ask why anyone would do this, but it’s the only thing I really noticed.

Question - are zombies supposed to not connect hits if you jump past them or over them? I noticed that if a zombie was hitting me all I had to do was jump and the hit would not connect.

Flashlight thing, yeah. I’ve gotta get it to do a live update.

Zombies hits connecting. I’m still debating if you’ll be able to pass through zombies or not, got to try it out with colliding with them. They will miss if you’re out of range, but if you’re blocked in by them, they’ll be much harder to avoid when you’re surrounded.

I love the new flashlight system, is fantastic. The reload of weapons is great and I like it. The only thing is the FPS with the flashlight, I have 10/15 FPS when I use that, especially when is night. And sometimes when I enter in a room with 8 zombies and I move the character without shot zombies the FPS go down at 17.
Good idea the exp and damege point that apear when I kill a zombie.
How do you think about a life bar on the head of zombies to see theyr life?
Thank’s for attention and good work.

so i am glad you decided to release another alpha. Only 2 things i really need to say 1 the only problem i have (you are still looking for game play problems right?) is that i know there is no shotgun reload animation but the time it takes to reload it seems way too fast for me, just feels unnatural. i’m not sure though if you just made it fast because there is no animation or what not. and 2 f you decided to collect FPS my normal 1 is 30 but with flash light goes on and off of 15

 22

Wow…. was I late to comment on this…. I’m usually the first or second….

Well, let me point out the fps. It’s 30 or so regular. When I’m doing the shotgun with the flashlight, I was getting around 20-24 fps. That isn’t horrible. But then when I shoot the shotgun, my fps skyrockets to like 1000….. I really doubt a flash game has a fps capability of that.

I’ll tell you some other things once I’ve compiled them….

So far,This game Promise to be Amazing. The Graphics are Sweet, the game is running Smoothly as Water(Lowest FPS 20) and When Zombies Backstepped When You Did Yellow Damage Was a Detail I Personally Find Cool.
However,The Flashlight,Though a Cool Thing For Cosmetic Purposes In The Game,Doesn’t See To Be That Useful,Since I Can Perfectly See In The Night.

Hi Con.

With 154 kills and playing until 21:13, I got a minimum of 5 FPS and an average of 29.

The new flashlight looks great! The other improvements (new clothing/hairs and “darker” nights) are also very interesting!

I would ask you about how easy it was to simply pass throught zombies and avoid their attacks, but our friend kuronosan had already done it.

I read somewhere you said that in your game there will be “sort of” specialized zombies like L4D. Will this include zombies with more HP? (In this alpha all of them have around 50HP, haven´t they?)

I don’t know if you’ve already thought about that, but how about changing the damage of shots fired in the dark accordingly with the use (or the absence) of flashlight? (I mean: if you decide to do not use the flashlight in the dark, you will certainly attract less zombies, but your gun damage will be worse). The same suggestion is also valid for long distance shots. By the way, will the damage of guns be somehow better in contact shots?

Cheers.

I played with distance affecting the damage done but came to the conclusion that it really didn’t make much sense when it came to the distances we’re talking about here. I might revisit it once I start looking at the outdoor areas. You make a good point about point blank shots though, I might implement an increased critical shot chance for those close range shots.

Another great Alpha, the fps usually sticks around 30, but it drops to 6 or 7 when rapid firing and reloading the shotgun at night with the flashlight. Repetitive jumping, climbing, or ducking does not appear to have a great effect on the fps. Well Done.

I was just wondering if the corpses of the zombies would disappear (ex. Last Stand 1 & 2) or would they remain on the ground like in this beta?

They do disappear. I’ve got the options built in for body removal times as well, it’s currently set to the longest removal time, think it’s about 60 seconds or so.

Great game. I found a few big problems though. When you shoot the glock 17 with the flashlight on, the flashlight doesn’t stay connected with the gun. And also the shotgun is too inaccurate. A shotgun is supposed to fire multiple shots(example:20 gauge=20 small pellets, 12 gauge=12 shots ETC.) Most times in the game you shoot roughly 5 shots. Anyways, needs some work, but hope it gets much better!

You’ll find that most games treat shotguns the same way, reason being that if you have 20 collision objects flying around everytime someone fires a shotgun, it kills performance. Little maths equation for you, 1 shotgun shot, 20 collision objects, checking against say 10 zombies, each with 4 hit areas, 30 times a second. 20 x 40 x 30. 24000 checks per second. That’s a lot of operations for poor old Flash.

My avrage fps was 40 in the day and 30 in the night. I have an avrage computer so that isnt half bad. 1 more thing It never actully gets dark enough for the flashlight to be of any use so maby you should make the nights darker.

January 19th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
 34

My avg fps is about 18, low is about 5-6 and high is about 25-30.
In this Alfa it looks like you are firing tracer rounds as every time you fire a white dot with a long tall behind it shows up about 1/2 way acrost the screen from the muzzel of the gun, on the shot gun many dots show up. so is this a bug? will it be in the final game? and if so will I (the player) be able to tagle it on and off.
if you need more clarification just ask.

It’s a shotgun. It fires multiple rounds.

Looking Good, I really like the new character apperances. The new flashlight fits in. Everything seems to fit.
I have a question about development. While I know you’re not finished with most things such as guns, areas, animations, etc…this Alpha seems very polished and surpisingly very fun.
When you create your games, do you do a certain thing first to get it out of the way such as artwork, area design, or stats, or do you do everything in layers. Like a little of this or a little of that, either way…everything’s looking good Con.

I’m pretty chaotic with my development, it comes down a lot of the time to what I feel like doing on the day. If I feel like animating, I’ll do walk cycles or weapon animations. If I feel like designing I’ll do interface stuff. Programming, I’ll do systems stuff. There are a lot of elements that rely on other sections being done though, things like the search systems (which I’m starting on today) need the interface to be designed before I build the front end. Character animations need the movement and keyboard controls in place to test them, that sort of thing.

For having Zombies not being pass-trough-able what about having some (random ones) able to be passed, others not. It could help fake some depth.

“When you’re spamming fire and reload, you’re clicking and pressing R at the same time? You shouldn’t be able to fire while you’re reloading…”

Actually it was i pressed fire constantly and reload constantly and i was firing the shotgun at about the same rate as i would by just clicking like crazy, because the reload time filled up the time spent cooling down from the first shot. Don’t really know if that clears it up.

Oh right. Yeah, that’d be because there’s no reload animation for the shotgun, it’ll take a hell of a lot longer to reload the shotgun fully, probably twice that of the pistol.

Game is nice and smooth, walking is no problem, no freezing at all, and the flashlight is much better than the first demo. Vista doesn’t have any problems with this game, so the XP’s shouldn’t either, excellent alpha I should say.

Very nice. Avg FPS:32 Low:20
I’m using a MacBook, so my framerate stays pretty good most of the time.
A question, or two: Reloading a shotgun (usually) requires that each shell be inserted individually. Does this mean that the skill reload will be implemented 8 times in succession, for each shell? Or will it all be one reloading action? I can see some issues arising.
For one thing, doing them all individually will require quite a bit more concentration than normal. In gears of war, I pretty much had the action reload timing burned into my skull. Doing it repeatedly could throw off some people in a time of crisis. Conversely, making it all one big meter raises some other problems: would that make it too easy? Even some animation issues. Does the character reload slowly, then suddenly speed up when you hit the skill reload?
Extremely polished for an alpha build, the first one wouldn’t work on my computer so this is my first time. I must say, you’ve got me psyched. Cheers

I loved the idea of day and night, but night was just too…blue. I ended up resetting because the blue zombies were just too hilarious. I was just wondering, was I somehow glitching, or were the zombies reacting to night/the flashlight? If they were, nice touch. If they weren’t, then they were just randomly running at me for some other reason.

Also, if you jump on top of a barricade, and then walk on top of an attacking zombie, they will glitch and can’t attack you (currently writing this with 2 zombies trapped under me =P)

Anyway, my average FPS was 32, my lowest was 17 (I think it was when I started and no zombies were onscreen.

And what’s up with the Gears of War-ish reloader? Is that the normal reloader or are you going to add special effects if you time it correctly (like GOW)?

Lighting colours need to be finalised, you’ll notice it gets dark at about 4pm at the moment too. The zombies can’t see as well in the dark and yes, they react to the flashlight.

Read the notes for info on the “Skill Reload”.

Nice game but wats the point of having a flashlight if u can see well enough in the dark without it and it just attracts zombies.

No FPS change with flashlight here. Just one thing, the shotgun gives too much damage in long range (considering it`s a shotgun). Also, the reload time should depend of how many shells you still got in it (I suppose you already know that)

Well, first off, my average FPS was 31 and my low was 21, which I am pretty amazed at since my computer is REALLY slow.
Second, as I was playing, a question occured to me about the shotgun. I’m going to put this the best I can, the aiming symtem you have in the aphla is: the more you move, the more it effects the aiming (ex: jumping makes the crosshair larger). But the shotgun aiming is different, all of the bullets are really tight when they just exit the barrel. Then, of corse, they spread the farther they go. So (finally), in The Last Stand: Union City will the shotgun’s crosshair get smaller, the closer you are aiming near the character?
Other than that there was nothing else, the gameplay was really good and the blood splatter was a nice touch.
Welcome back and keep up the good work, Con!

When ever you click once you run out of ammo you reload. Just saying its not hard to fix so might aswell do it.

It’s designed that way, it’s the “auto-reload” option in play. With it turned off you’ll have to press R to reload.

Very nice. I know you know abount the shotgun reload. Perhaps rather than coding an entirly knew animation you could use the same animatio as in TLS 2? It was a very accurate animation.

Also, some advice for reloading, perhaps you should have chariters have to find magazines for their firearms, as well? I hate games where the haricter seems to never run out of new magazines, no matter how many they drop.

You should have to reload your emkpty mags after you use them when not in combat, and if you run out of magazines you should have to either load the empty one, a single round at a time(Not very smart if its a 30-round M4 mag), or switch to another gun.

This would make bolt-actions, lever-actions, and other intergral-magazine weapons more useful, as they will allways reload at the same speed.

I hope that you do not gind this too far off topic or annoying, its just another of my pet peeves with most guns in video games as a firearm-lover.

Love you games, cant wait for beta V1.

The whole half filled magazine thing is more hassle than it’s worth. While I agree with you on a realism level (I worked on Infiltration an old infantry sim mod for UT and played loads of Red Orchestra) it’s just a pain to implement and most people won’t get it. The current system is the standard so I’m sticking with it.

It’s all about a balance of fun, searching for magazines to put your rounds in, jammed weapons, managing magazine loads…not fun.

Hi my Name is Zerk Phar and i help produce Daimonin. Now i had a very good ideas my buds like to call me the think tank because my mind never stops going on an idea i am always creating something in my head.

Now my advice is that you have 3 different campaigns. and may be a multi-player interface mode.
here are the campiagns i thought of.

1.You are this medic you and a team of men were air dropped in the state you missions gather survivors and bring them back to the safe camp so you and two other men have to gather them and bring them back you know the biggest objective is that you try to get as many survivors rescued as you can by day (30 or 40 or 50 whatever)

2.your were deployed by the army your mission is to aid the army by basically conquering Union city block by block or district by district. there is no time limit just take it over so that it is safe for the army to come in and Meda-vac the survivors

3. Just run and Gun. survive as long as you can and maybe do petty missions on the side or help in the other two missions. go for gamers who just like the killing.

well thats all i have know so maybe let me know if you like and also i am a kind of producer i am like a guy who just think of great game ideas.

Yeah, I don’t need ideas. Thanks. It’s why I do this for a living.

Just checking in to see the latest and greatest.

When I played the beta, I received a good 30 fps average, so that made me happy right off the bat.

I like what I see in nearly every aspect of the beta. This is a drastic improvement from the alpha and I can really see the game elements beginning to take shape. The preliminary HUD is well focused, and I prefer low-profile icons, so this coincides nicely with the game play.

The effects, although unfinished, are tidy and very eye-catching. I definitely like the changes you have made to the flashlight, so I hope my earlier criticism worked some degree of good. Visually, the game is impressive, because the animations are very smooth for the most part, plus both the zombies and the survivors are looking much more finished.

One thing I would quickly denote is that the transition from light to dark occurred a little too quickly. However, I imagine that this has already been discussed in another post(s). If this is the case, forgive my ignorance.

This is golden. Thanks for working so hard to keep us from having to play “Line Rider 1000″ all day.

my fps was about 33 to 25, mainly 33. and that was with the room covered in blood and switching the light on and off while shooting stuff. I didn’t actually notice the any dips in frame. so thats good.
i like being able to move past zombies, because i can see getting owned in the corner likely to happen. if you were going to do what the other guy suggested saying certain zombies block you. it seems like the zombie fatties would make sense i guess? they take up more space.

A lot of comments about passing through zombies, just a thought that it could be a skill based on that level increasing the percentage chance of walking through/past a zombie or knocking them to the side, this could be linked to strength or agility, like in Dawn of the dead when dodging zombies with no weapons.

I didn`t read all the comments, so it may happen that a repeat someones comment.
1) damage is - shown with different colours red and some times yellow.?!
2)the speed of the bullets -as to me it`s to slow, a mean the flying speed and the time between you shoot and the bullet start to fly.
3) about crosshair- I think that before the first shot the crosshair should be very very small, especialy when you are crouch and after second, third shots it must go wider and wider
4) damage and the distanse, as for the shotgun closer the zombie - more damage.

sorry for my english, I`m from Ukraine, yeah you have fans even in here ;)

Hey Con, I love your games man and I just have a suggestion or 2 at the moment for your final version of your game. Oh and also its an awesome alpha.

1. First related to obstacles: Later in the game when zombies get more advanced will they be able to attack the object in their way to destroy it or after sometime crawl/climb over it?
2. One thing I’ve been thinking about is this; Custom Weapon modifcation, not in the sense of making your own gun or changing its damage but sorta along the line of things like: Shoulder Straps (to decrease kickback for say Automatic weapons) Scopes ( just incase u think it will be more fun serching for a scope for a rifle) and last one Lazer sighters for i dont know pistols at close range or mabye even a shotgun or two later on in game.

Oh and srry if u have seen these ideas from deleted comments or ones i havnt seen or just ones u thought of yourself
and also just want to say that im srry if these ideas seam stupid or may take too long since of coures, YOUR the expert in the making of flash games not me im just one of your many fans

the dots i am talking about i explande in my first post: every time you fire a white dot with a long tall behind it shows up about 1/2 way acrost the screen from the muzzel of the gun. i gess they are more of lines, i am just trying to find out what they are, they are in almost every flash game i play, when they hit a zombie the damg. text shows up so i gess they are the bullets or something

agin thanks for your time and i l like dippin dots to

They’re called tracer rounds. While not technically accurate to most weapons, they’re handy for games to give you a sense of where you’re shooting.

hey my name is…well thats not important. What is important is my favorite artist is making another last stand and he just posted another alpha.

Anyways First off to put it simple it looks GREAT animation is good reloading is good. (even though the shotgun isn’t done yet) It has goof game play and controls and i don’t think there is any problem there. The Flashlight looked well and i was wondering if it was just me or were the zombie affected by it, it seemed like it. The die animation i would like to see soon because its one of those key animations in there. I also noticed i don’t know if you said this but that the glock rarely got critical hits is it supposed to do this? I actually quite like the toggle crouch it seems more natural for me to use and it may be useful if your say trying to go under something (if you implement that) anyways my average FPS was normally 30-35 and the lowest i could get was 3

anyways like your games con keep up the work

Hello Con!
You’re doing a great job!

My FPS where around 30 all the time.

A “bug” I found was if there’s a zombi when the sunlight goes down, he doesn’t get darker, as spawning zombies do, and he seem like shining!
I supose you thought about darkening as per objet, and maybe should be the whole screen, to make it easy.

I supose you already noticed that the reloading text is backwards when you face left.

As some people said, dodge zombies is easy as you just need to jump throught them. I think that zombies shouldn’t block you, but slow you, so it will be harder to dodge them.

Thanks for your games!

I was just wondering if you could use certain buildings as a temp base. Like a rest area for survivors to use as a check point. You could assign survivors to use this base to rest recuperate and scavange the building for supplies.

Not to mention it would be an interesting way to get some character developoment durring the resting phases and maybe even to discover plot.

Once again good sir, I commend on your apt for game design. 0.5 is a well appreciated improvement upon the former Alpha, although I must say that there were 3 issues of which I had taken notice. Two of these could possibly just be a bug due to a yet unpolished system and may have already caught your eye and are simply waiting to be implemented for the final product, one though I would advise to take consideration for.

The first of these being a simple momentary dislocation of the bits and pieces when you jump. I had noticed that the light was momentarily shifted away from the gun, and the same as with your legs from your torso. I would simply assume this is simply and issue of refinement and shall be fixed by the release of the final product.

Secondly I had noticed that a point blank shot from the shotgun either hits with only a single pellet or misses altogether. As this may be just a simple glitch due to a need of polish and refinement I shall speak no more of the matter.

The third however is an issue with the FPS counter, I would say. At times it will say 8 or 10 for the FPS and than jump to 14-15 and I see little to no change in performance. Following which I have seen it spike to 40 or 60 and seem as though it is only running 17-20. I have reason to fear that your counter might have a glitch in itself. While I know more often than not you do not want to hear of glitches I felt as though you should know this since it had caught my attention.

Once again, I look forward to the release of this game and adding it to my favorites.

With great respect and awe.
-Caleb

Con, first of all, I love you and all your games, hows that post good enough to read now?
Cant wait for the full game…

Ok , back on topic, me played the alpha, and I encountered some bugs you might wanna know :

1. Zombies wont respond to you sometimes when you shoot them, or walk past them

2. Its so damn easy to evade the attacks, I know your working on it right now, but, just to let you know :D

3. It happened to me one time that when you enter another room, the zombies who were already in that room, just die by 1 hit…

4. Oh, and you cant die in the Alpha… when I write this post, I have about then -13000 HP… Well you can die, but you can still shoot then…

5. Yeah it does lag when you use the flashlight (not that this is a bug or something…)

Ok, I hope the game comes out before March or something, bcause I cant wait any longer…

And your doing very good man, I dont think I’ve seen 2 of the same zmbies next to each other in this game…

But I did see a zombie who looked just like my character XD

Oh, and I got some ideas for the game too, not the ones that evryone keeps posting, but new ones…
I can post em later…

i have a new lap top so it ran fast. i love the flash light, its better than the last. the only two problems for me was the climbing(it didnt show any thing) and the runing then switching to the crouch. when you are runnung and then you switch your legs dont move and it looks like you sliding.

Hey dude, I love your games…

And I found some bugs in the Alpha :

1. Sometimes when you shoot zombies, or walk past them, they dont respond… They do nothing…
2. It once happened to me that when you enter a new room, all the zombies die by 1 hit (Only the ones that were already in the room, not the respawning)
3. Zombies sometimes get stuck between each other, and the barricades…
4. Zombie attacks are so easy to evade, Yeah I know your working on the attack animations, but, just to let ya know :D
5. Yeah it does lag when you use the flashlight (not that this is a bug or something…)
6. Appearantly, you cant die in the Alpha, well, you actually can, but you can still shoot in the direction you pointed before the last hit a zombie made to you… By the time im writing this, i have more then -13000 HP… seriously…

Im trying to find some more to help ye out, so you can fix them, but in the meantime, I’ll still wait for the full game… Cant wait…

And BTW, I got some cool ideas for this game too, and they are not the ones in all the other posts, these are something else…

CYA and good luck…

You can help me by not posting bugs like I asked. And no, I don’t need any ideas, got plenty laying around here, thanks.

Off-Topic: I could’ve sworn one of my kills looked like Michael Jackson.

On-Topic: When the timer reached 00:00, it seemed to take a few minutes to start going up again. Not sure if that’s a glitch, or just my computer.

All random appearances, so it’s possible. I’ll check the clock, it could be an issue with the counters resetting.

Someone probably already said this, but I dont feel like reading 119 comments. It seems although that when your very close to a zombie sometimes they dont attack you. It’s probably already on your agenda, but just felt like telling you. Also, I think you move too fast when crouching, it also looks really awkward. So far though, it’s looking REALLY good. I’m already addicted. Lolz

Well guess what, I don’t feel like reading your comment in that case.

My framerate was a solid 30, until I entered the 2nd room where it says it went to 19, then 34, but I couldn’t tell a difference.

Hi, awesome games, brilliant fun maybe just for added realism instead of changing weapons instantly it could take some time it would make it more difficult as well.

Very nice, averaged about 30 FPS even with the flashlight on and spamming the shotgun.

One question I couldn’t find an answer to was whether or not critical hits will be based on hit location or will it be determined by some kind of gun/character stat?

Anyway, nice job and happy Australia day!

3 weeks mustve done something. Its pretty damn a leap from the first alpha you gave out. Toggle crouch, quick switch between weapons, and full realistic animations. Blood splatter has really random effects but doesnt matter when your mowing a lot of zombies(who really cares about physics at those moments). Just need some work on the flashlight moments. If you can see everything with natural nightvision than i dont think the flashlight is necessary. Possibly make a new zombie only visible to the light or go with the old fashion zelda. Where the only way you can see in front or behind you is with the flashlight radius.

I killed 31 Zombies without losing ANY health! now that’s how tough us Zomboligists are!!

cause in real life ( unless you are immune ) you would turn into a zombie from one Bite/ scracth! ( i spelt scracth wrong, didn’t i? i just know i did. )

Found what might be a bug (or at the least a bit of unbalance).

I noticed that if you fire the shotgun down while jumping (not strait down) you can decapitated multiple enemies across the field, even when the bullet traces hit their chests/feet.

Plus, the same jump and fire trick consistently lands me perfect headshots when I use the handgun.

Dear Con
i was wondering since this is just an Alpha are you going to alter damage from the zombies because if the zombies can only do this much damage like 4-20 something or will the specials steal all the glory from the regular walking weak dead guys I just need a Yes or No Answer

Well that was one of the best 30 minutes of my gaming life. I’ve noticed something weird in this alpha: When the daytime was changing to nightime (I hadn’t noticed till everything was dark, and it was kickass) A random blue zombie popped up. I thought: ”oh he’s just blue because of the moon.” but most zombies that popped up after him wee more whitish than him. A little glitch, perhaps?
And jut one off topic question:
Will there be dual wieldable weapons? (pistols, uzis, melee maybe?)

Will.

One question, when you have the game finished are you going to use beta-testers to try out the game maybe a week in advance to find glitches and bugs so the game will have a smooth release?

Hey, umm, there seems to be a problem with reloading. When I manually reload (with ‘r’), it seems to screw up and have the reloading sign… on my gun. But I am using a mac, so that could be the issue.Otherwise, really good stuff dude!

i was wondering, do critical hits happen once in a while, or is there a particualr place ya have to hit for it to happen, cos i thought shooting the head was a critical hit, but sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t could ya explain please….

Will damage/accuracy increase when the flashlight is on?

Also the reload time for the shotgun is quicker than the pistol..normally the shotgun would take longer since your just switching cartridges for a pistol

Great work love the ideas in it..

Also will there be any buttons to melee attack when the zombies get up close and you can no longer hit them with a gun?

Using Mac book pro 2.14gh
3gig ram only running the browser and OS performance was as follows

Google chrome (4.0.249.49 (35163) beta)
-Average 38
-Low 18

Safari 4.0.4
-Average 28
-Low 10

FireFox 2.0.0.20
-Average 41
-Low 19

latest version of flash player for mac

All fps were recorded over a few min jumping shooting with shotgun to get lows
low fps were all recorded in the ‘East’ room while jumping shooting shotgun with flash light on, not sure why but the east lows were always a little bit lower then the west maybe because of more objects, beats me :D

Looks great love the new cone flashlight

Out of curiosity what are your plans are for lighting will flashlight possibly be an ‘add-on’ such as you spoke of in the FAQ and will there be muzzle flash/lights fires maybe. having only diped my feet in making flash games i have no idea what those things are like to program or what they would do to performance, but im very interested to see were you go with it.

my personal feel about performance, was very smooth and playable at the recorded fps, in both Firefox and Chrome, safari seemed to chug a big steadily when things were busy, but even then not that bad, and from personal experience safari does not like flash :P

Im not sure what you work on but if want performance tested on mac, or any specific mac browser id be happy to give it a run,

After using all the bullets in Alpha 0.5, my conclusion is the avg fps is 32 and the lowest is 10.
Also, I notice that bulletholes disappear. I understand that blood and corpses have to be disappeared but why bulletholes also?

Haha! This game is awesome, i can see this getting made into A playstation 3 MINI or and xbox arcade game, Con i spotted the skill reload, maybe you should put in a noie when its succesful and make it longer to reload when you miss it, Btw, is there going to be a gun loadout or something? Like a shop?.
And The RELOADIN sign on the shotgun is backwards when you face left with your player, Anyway Keep up the good work!

Looking great so far, i have minimum lag. unfortunately the flash light causes an fps drop of about 15 - 20 frames. May i suggest a quality control button that effects only the graphics of the flashlight and nothing else?

Game looks great, just like all your others. It needs work (No, it’s done already *Cough Cough*) but what can you expect from an alpha? Can’t wait for it to be done and see what your next game’s gonna be like =D (Note: Is a fan)

FPS Stats :
Low (With Flashlight) : 11
Low (Without) : 20
Average : ~28
High : 50 (Though there was a momentary jump to 120, I’m assuming that was just the after effect of switching rooms.)

I’d say that movement should be slowed while walking “through” zombies, or at least the reach of thier arms, with the Z’s having thier own chance at knock-back, seeing as you can stand “next” to them graphically and thier arms will flail to either side of you since you’re standing in the torso area instead of the attack.

u should add fire delay for handgun (like the shotgun) because if i use autoclick it turned to be a machine gun XD

Min FPS : 5 fps (autoclick makes lagg)
Avg FPS : 22 fps
with lights on : 15 fps

awesome work!

Who in the what click?

well, knowing that this game is only an advancement of last stand union city, it works fine related to FPS, i tried it on different pc’s ,some of them dropped fps to 15 or 16 with flashlight, others went to 20 or so, but the new gameplay just goes to another level compared to previous lat stands, damage points seem useless in the point of view that the game trama goes to just smash an kill…. but if you wanna make it look like a good like a complete game, it would be good if you added a zombie life meter to make a use for damage points…well that’s all i can help with, i hope evrything goes well for you man, good game.
X)

It’s not an “advancement” I’m building everything from the ground up.

liked it good game so far but i think you should give it depth like in the hallways have w walk u or strafe up and d go down because if you cant pass through them you should still be able to walk around them, also you shouldnt be able to walk through zeds. thats my 2 cents looking forward to it
